Humidification may reduce respiratory infections / absenteeism

  • In some controlled studies of offices and schools, increasing indoor humidity was correlated with a reduction in absenteeism and fewer reported respiratory problems. For example: in four out of six controlled studies, humidification lowered absenteeism (e.g. odds ratio for absenteeism dropped to 0.54, 95% CI 0.45–0.65). PubMed+1

  • More recently, a 2024 study found a notable association between ambient humidity and respiratory health: lower humidity correlated with more respiratory symptoms in a large adult cohort. SpringerLink

Conclusion: Humidifiers can — at least under some conditions — help reduce the frequency of respiratory illness or discomfort linked to dry air, potentially improving health and productivity.
